Program Description:
SUMMER IN CYPRUS
GEOLOGY
OVERVIEW
This is a fantastic opportunity for animal science and pre-veterinary students to study animal health and disease and to learn about animal husbandry in the Mediterranean during the summer.
You will visit piggeries, hatcheries, goat and dairy farms, veterinary clinics, and one of the Most Advanced Biogas Units in the European Union, which makes for a fascinating comparative study of facilities, practices and perspectives in the Mediterranean around animal care!
CURRICULUM
Courses
Students enroll in 2 Courses and earn 6 Credits for this 4-Week Summer Program:
Required Course:
GEOL-315: Geology of Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean (3 Credit Hours)
Elective Courses (Select One):
DES-260: Photography I (3 Credit Hours)
EUS-210: European Cultures (3 Credit Hours)
GREK-101: Greek Language and Culture I (3 Credit Hours)
Site Visits
The program includes site-visits that will complement classroom teaching. Site visits may include:
Guided Field Excursions to the Troodos Mountains – where one of the most studied ophiolite formations in the world can be found, and other geologically important sites in Cyprus, including the sedimentary rock formations, and quarries and mines.
Participants will be able to create a collection form all the major Cyprus rocks and minerals from these visits.
