Designed to acquaint students and future media practitioners with various laws and regulations that currently impact all forms of media, this course will exam the past, present and future of media law through cases, current events and examples that illuminate the intricate and fluid nature of communication law. Libel, obscenity, invasion of privacy, fair use doctrine, copyright, cyberbullying and other applicable laws and regulations will be explored.
The course is intended to help students understand issues pertaining to the U.S. legal system (i.e. the First Amendment) and global communication landscape in the new era of convergence media. Students will also examine ethical dilemmas journalists face in the age of digital content delivery.
