Program Description:
SUMMER IN CYPRUS
ANIMAL SCIENCE
OVERVIEW

Dive into the world of Animal Husbandry this summer with our engaging course designed for aspiring animal science and pre-veterinary students. This course offers a comprehensive exploration into the breeding, management, and welfare of farm animals, including dairy and beef cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits, equines, and aquaculture species. With an emphasis on sustainable practices, students will gain insight into the ever-evolving animal production industry, its impact on the economy, and the environmental footprint of animal farming.

Enhance your journey to the forefront of veterinary science with our Animal Health and Disease course, tailored for undergraduate students in animal science, pre-veterinary studies, and zoology. This course delves into the comparative anatomy and physiology of canines, felines, and equines. From nutrition and reproduction to cutting-edge veterinary care, students will explore a broad spectrum of topics designed to provide a deep understanding of animal health and disease management.

What sets this course apart is the integration of field studies and lab sessions in the UNIC Veterinary Medicine School's anatomy lab, allowing students to apply their learning in real-world settings. The curriculum covers everything from non-infectious diseases to emergency care, offering a detailed look at current trends in veterinary medicine.

Beyond the classroom, our program uniquely integrates field visits to local farms, providing firsthand experiences that bring theoretical knowledge to life. These excursions are complemented by cultural tours across Cyprus, offering a well-rounded understanding of the region's heritage and its relation to animal husbandry. With 42-45 hours of subject contact, facilitated in English, and requiring prerequisites of junior standing and two college-level biology courses, students will leave with a clear view of the animal production industry and the arena of veterinary care.
